CAMAGÜEY.-Although not with the expected results, each of the territories of this province works in the program of popular self-sufficiency. This intention to bring the population 30 pounds per month of food, vegetables, grains, citrus fruits and fruit demand a total production of 127 953 tons of foodstuffs.

Up to the moment, of the 117 915 tons contracted, about 90 728 are allocated to this program which represents an average of 21.3 pounds per inhabitants.

The analysis carried out in the Council of the Provincial Administration showed that more seriousness is required in the work of the recruitment and later in the distribution so that those quantities land truly in the popular councils. It is up to the Acopio to sell more than 60 720 tons of generics, so it is demanded of greater seriousness on the part of this state intermediary.

The Municipality with the lowest rate of per capita pounds per inhabitants is Camagüey – 2.1 pounds/inhabitants – because their recruitment levels do not meet the demand in the municipality. Elvis Pérez Olivera, delegate of the Ministry of Agriculture in the province, explained that it is envisaged to link the productions that send to the municipality headwaters the territories of Jimaguayú, Céspedes, Najasa, Vertientes and Sierra de Cubitas with the objective of supplying the productive deficit.

According to figures provided by the Agriculture Delegation, in the first two months of 2019, 10 and 11.5 pounds/inhabitants were delivered.
