CAMAGÜEY.- As part of the scientific tour to Cuba, specialists from the Territorial Delegation of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (Citma) in Camagüey, and from the Environmental Research Center (Cimac), accompany the two-day tour that develops along the coasts of this province.
During the first day, last Monday, the researchers from Camagüey explored, together with the Naturaleza Secreta team, the Nuevitas Bay.

In this place, they verified the rehabilitation actions of the mangroves of the Estero del Gremio and the great value of its marine-coastal ecosystems, as confirmed to the Cuban News Agency by Damaris Fernández Marí, a communication specialist from Cimac.
Similarly, in Santa Rita, a town in the municipality of Nuevitas, they appreciated the results of the Coastal Resilience project, when visiting one of the patios that is part of it.
At the meeting, Nereyda Junco Garzón, technical director of the program, explained to the film crew details about the integrated management of disaster risk reduction and adaptation to climate change in vulnerable coastal communities.
The director of Cimac also talked about the modeling of the dangers of heavy rains, penetration of the sea and strong winds, and the corresponding update of the disaster risk reduction plans.
Other issues were related to advances in adaptation based on ecosystems and communities, natural solutions in mangroves, as well as the importance of the Nuevitas Environmental Management Model and the Municipal Climate Change Adaptation Plan, which contribute to the Development Strategy Local.
During its journey, the delegation also visited the Cayos Ballenatos wildlife refuge, the mangrove swamps of Nuevitas Bay, and the nature tourism trail of Cayo del Medio.
On the second and last day of the tour, the specialists appreciated the biodiversity and values of the Cayo Sabinal Managed Resources Protected Area, located in the northern municipality.
Meanwhile, the Ocean for Youth ship carries out marine monitoring, added Hernández Marí.

With a crew of 24 people, including 18 specialists from various research centers, the voyage to Cuba began on July 18th, in the port of Júcaro, south of the central province of Ciego de Ávila.
This scientific expedition is aimed at evaluating the current state of coral reef populations in the Cuban archipelago, including the diversity, density and health of such vital ecosystems.
