CAMAGÜEY.- A group of students from Camagüey who will represent Cuba in international meetings, were recognized last Wednesday at the Máximo Gómez Báez Vocational Pre-University Institute of Exact Sciences (IPVCE), by the Provincial Directorate of Education and that study center.

At the event, the medalists in competitions and members of the 2023 national preselection were honored, as well as the teachers and coaches of the subjects Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Physics, Geography, Spanish, English and History.

"This is a reference center in the country, and it represents a privilege that so many of our students have such relevant results. Despite the shortcomings and difficulties, Cuban students always show great knowledge and enjoy prestige at international events," referred to Mercedes Escuredo Olazábal, provincial director of education.

César Acosta Martínez, a twelfth grader, is a great lover of science. He began by competing in Mathematics during secondary education, he affirms that he wants to study Physics at university, but his main results in the IPVCE are in the subject of Chemistry, where he participated last year in the Ibero-American Olympiad, for Latin American countries, Spain and Portugal .

"I obtained a silver medal along with another classmate, and this year I repeated in the shortlist to achieve the national gold. I am passionate about all sciences, but I decided to compete here in Chemistry because of the quality of the teachers, we have Julio, considered one of the best coaches in Latin America", he explained to Adelante.

Another of the medalists applauded at the ceremony is Liss Marian Estévez Suárez, ninth grade, a contestant in the Mathematics subject, and who was exempted from taking the IPVCE entrance exams due to her achievements.

"I have had many experiences and excellent training with very good teachers for the competitions. The possibility of studying here from the secondary stage is very good, because it is an advance that helps you to arrive with better preparation and knowledge to the pree, for there continue to represent the school at events," he said.

Someone who has had a lot to do with the historical results exhibited by the center is the professor of Biology Eslinda Hernández Argilagos, with 50 years in Education, half of them as a contest coach at the IPVCE.

"Working with these students is a unique experience, they are very talented, and I manage to establish a degree of empathy with them that satisfies me, I feel like part of the family.

This year, as in many others, we have obtained the first national place in Biology, our motto has been to feel like a team, they do not see each other as competition, because the important thing is that Cuba wins, "she affirms.

"We took 10 students to the national team and they all won medals, 7 of them made the shortlist up and two will be part of the team for the Ibero-American Olympiad, scheduled to be held in Madrid in September," added Eslinda.

The achievements that these boys reach in their competitions will serve to continue increasing the prestige of the classrooms specialized in training for competitions, which have already reaped numerous successes over the years for the "Vocational" from Camagüey.
