CAMAGÜEY.- After reaching the age of 18, five young people left the Homes for children without family protection in the city of Camagüey, they will benefit from a home.

The apartments, located in the Julio Antonio Mella Popular Council, are in the completion stage and delivery to their new owners is expected in February.

"We are concluding with the painting, giving coating to the exterior parts, the placement of the portals, laundry rooms and the floor," said Santa Cecilia Rondón García, investor of the Municipal Housing Directorate in the territory.

Ileana Zamora Olivera, a provincial methodologist who cares for the children in these centers, clarifies that the beneficiaries, coming from the homes of La Zambrana and Plaza Habana, will continue to be cared for by the State, and that they will immediately start work after finishing their studies.

"One of the girls is a Gastronomy graduate, and others have practiced gardening. They integrate perfectly into society, but we visit them because we are still their family, we will not leave them because they already have their own residence," she clarifies.

Given the social impact of the work, with an approximate amount of 3 million pesos, there are several entities involved in it. An important role is played by the Camagüey General Works Contractor Company (Dovel), by ensuring the quality of the services provided.

"The project consists of the remodeling of an old ship that functioned as a warehouse. It is a local adapted with the highest possible quality. Each house consists of a living room, kitchen-dining room, two bedrooms with closet each, bathroom, terrace with service patio and portal", explained Lixy Horta Miranda, Dovel's works administrator.

"Despite the fact that we have been working with locally produced materials due to the situation in which the country finds itself, we try to replace some with higher quality, and we have also received donations from mipymes(small private companies). We have the support of entities such as the Service of Communities, the Education District, the Comprehensive Provincial Maintenance Company in the restoration of the road and the students of the Civil Construction Polytechnic," she added.

Dovel also subcontracted two fundamental builders: the Provincial Supply and Services Company for Education, in charge of the construction and assembly of the 5 houses, and the Cuban Fund for Cultural Assets (FBC) for urbanization.

"We have deposited all the love in the world in this mission. The ornamentation is of extreme quality, we use various types of palms and croton to give beauty to the environment. We would like to provide it with adequate care so that it is preserved and lasts over time" , commented Zurama Pérez Díaz, an artist from the FBC.

A donation of 35 highly efficient LED lamps, courtesy of the medium-sized company Renova, will supply the 5 homes with the necessary lighting in all their rooms.

"We insert ourselves into this noble task, which responds to corporate social responsibility. We are working on the projection of the impact that we can have on communities and society, more than economic indicators that can distinguish us as a company," said Liosha Arias Artiles, commercial adviser for Renova.

It is the policy and mandate of the Cuban State, in conjunction with the Work Body, to deliver housing with the essential conditions when the beneficiaries of the homes for children without family protection reach the age of majority. The five boys from Camagüey will receive their new houses in the first half of February.

Camagüey has two of these homes in the main municipality and another in Florida. The centers care for orphaned, abandoned children, in a complex social situation, whose parents have neglected parental responsibility, are serving a criminal sentence, are psychiatric or alcoholic patients.

The follow-up to the houses is multisectoral through a comprehensive care plan where the Party, the Government and various organizations intervene.
