CAMAGÜEY.- A political and cultural gala took place in this city to celebrate the 97 years of the University Students Federation (FEU). The Avellaneda Theater witnessed the national recognition to the provincial as a central seat for the date, accomplished by the rescue of the historical memory and the real reach of the organization.

Liven up by amateur artists from the Universities of Camagüey and Medical Sciences Carlos J. Finlay, the evening served also as a pretext to compliment the work of many. The prizes Alma Máter, Tiza de Oro (Chalk of Gold) , y A un futuro maestro (To a future Teacher) were delivered to relevant institutions, professors and students from both teaching centers.

Likewise, the national secretary of the FEU praised those who leave their mark in its history and granted them the distinction Con Cuba (With Cuba). The awarded were the Camagüey Ballet, the Provincial Direction of Education and the Artistic Group Maragúan, among others.

José Ángel Fernández Castañeda, national president of the FEU, remembered the beginnings of the students movement in the country and highlighted the role of those young people that, as Mella, got together and fought to make a better Cuba. Besides he encouraged the audience to continue writing, like them, the glorious pages of our history.
