For Camaguey, among the non-present fighters are Yasnier Toledo (64 kilograms) and Julio César La Cruz (81 kg), two sensitive absents, especially because they have won this competition several times; La Cruz, for example, have won it uninterruptedly since 2011.
The local's hopes lie on the gloves of the light welterweight Kevin Brown and the heavyweight Leinier Peró, the latter, protagonist of some of the most challenging fights of the last decade versus José Ángel Larduet.
The already confirmed assistance of Larduet, who won the 91 kilos division in 2012, creates great expectations about the fight, which could be the most important one among the Heavyweighters. Another important fight for the specialists and spectators will be that between Luis Oliva, from Matanzas and Brown from Camagüey, two of our greatest future promises.
Besides Larduet and Oliva, were summoned the world tournament participants Leodán Núñez (52 kg), Norlan Yera (56 kg) and Arisnoidys Despaigne (69 kg). On the other hand, among the absents are the light flyweight Yosvany Veitía, the flyweight Gerardo Cervantes, the lightweight Lázaro Álvarez, the welterweight Ronniel Iglesias and the heavyweight Erislandy Savón, all of them champions of this tournament.
Cuba won the last edition of this competition, on June 2013, after winning 8 golden medals, 1 silver medal and 2 bronze medals. The others were won by Venezuela (1-1-2) and Russia (1-0-2).
Everything suggests that such a distribution will change in the future. Because of the absence of many champions, the possibilities for those who are eager to highlight within the Cuban boxing are bigger, a chance for the Camagüeyans as well.
