CAMAGÜEY.— International Master Jorge Elías, from Camagüey, leads the Cuban team participating since last Wednesday in the Revolution Chess Cup in Mexico.
With a 2490 Elo rating, the current national champion is one of the top-rated players in the group called First Force, which will be played under a nine-round Swiss system.
The Cuban squad also includes Elier Miranda (2490), Dylan Berdayes (2453), Luis Daniel Rodríguez (2389), Rodney Pérez (2258), and Amanda Múñiz (2149).
More than 300 chess players are expected to compete in the event, which runs until November 17th. In addition to the main tournament, age- and gender-specific competitions are organized to encourage the development of children from seven years old and up.
The Revolution Chess Cup held its first edition in 2013 with rapid-play games only. Since then, it has grown in terms of participants, prize funds and has transitioned to the classical time control format.
