CAMAGÜEY.- For the first time in history, Camagüey was chosen as the headquarters of the activities in greeting to the Anniversary of the creation of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (Inder), and celebrated it with a great sports-recreational show this Thursday 23.
In different areas of the city, such as Avenida de la Libertad, the Casino Campestre, and areas surrounding the Rafael Fortùn Chacón Multipurpose Room, exhibition samples of more than 20 sports were held in unison, including a simultaneous 62-board chess and a recreational marathon.
Osvaldo Vento Montiller, national president of Inder, was a participant in the festival and said he was impressed by the village atmosphere.
"Sport has a great mobilizing capacity, with very little it is possible to carry out activities as big as those of today. Camagüey is a worthy venue, they earned that right and we are very excited about the experiences here."
Precisely, the excellent sports results that the province obtained in 2022 earned them to be hosts. The titles in the Playa Girón Tournament, the National Boxing Series, and the first category men's volleyball and diving national events, along with other podiums in various sports and performance in the School Games and Pioneers endorse the choice.
"I am very happy, it is something that the province deserved for the achievements of so many years. We are grateful, the sports glories have been recognized, and it is also an incentive for young athletes," Yumilka Ruiz, double Olympic volleyball champion, told Adelante.
During the event, a political-cultural event was also held at the Polyvalent, dedicated to the centenary of José Ramón Fernández Álvarez "El gallego", where prizes were awarded to the best Physical Education and Sports Clubs teachers.
Early in the morning the Cuban Parachute Federation settled its debt with the people of Camagüey with a "Jump for Fidel" in the Plaza de la Revolución, and the Cándido González stadium hosted a friendly baseball game between the teams from Camagüey and Granma, which it ended with a 5-0 victory for the home team.
At night another cultural gala will be held at the Avellaneda Theater, where the Distinction of Illustrious Son will be delivered to the Doctor of Pedagogical and Sports Sciences Iván Román Suarez from Camagüey for his contributions to the Cuban Sports Movement and the territory.
