After losing the weekend games a couple of times against the Mayabeque Hurricanes, Camagüey breathed again in the 61st National Baseball Series by completing an unexpected sweep over Matanzas.

On Saturday "Los Toros" baseball team suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of Yadián Martínez and Marlon Vega with a score of 3-0. Until the fourth inning, where Frank Madan dominated the opposing team and Lázaro Martínez drove in the first run of the visitors, while the local team was not very opportune when it came to producing runs, especially in the sixth inning.

Sunday's game highlighted the shortcomings of relief pitching. The departure of Rodolfo Sorís, who had withdrawn four immaculate innings, caused dissatisfaction in the audience of the Cándido González stadium. From then on, a five-run lead was squandered and they ended up losing 7-6.

During the week they hosted "Los Cocodrilos" baseball team, whom they outscored in the first game despite poor base-running in this game. While Juan Sebastián Contreras did not have his best afternoon, Ángel Luis Márquez entered to withdraw three innings with only one hit allowed. The offensive fulfill the audience's expectation to make runs starting in the third inning.

The next day, the defense of the hosts facilitated another victory against Yamichel Pérez, who lost his first game with "Los Cocodrilos" team. That afternoon’s fielding of Luis González and Leonel Moas Jr, who helped maintain the advantage, were left for history. The starter pitcher, Pedro Luis Guzmán, did an excellent job allowing only two clean runs in eight innings.

In the last game, Camagüey completed the sweep with a score of 9-4. Alexander Ayala and Moas Jr stood out on offensive, both 3-5 with two RBIs. Moreover, the return to the starting rotation of José Ramón Rodríguez was the best news, since he scored his fourth victory of the season.

Thus, the disciples of Miguel Borroto remained alive in thirteenth place in the table with 15 wins and 18 setbacks, six units behind the Mayabeque leader and two from the postseason line. Starting today, the challenge will be against "Los Elefantes" of Cienfuegos (10-23), bottom of the championship.
