CAMAGÜEY.- This September 25th, from the top of the position chart of the 59th Cuban National Baseball Series, the Bulls of the Plain batted for inspiration against violence toward women and girls, which moved one of the most faithful fanatics in the country, the ones in the Cándido González stadium.

Full of satisfaction for cooperating with Evoluciona, Cuban Campaign for non-violence toward women and girls, the baseball players from Camagüey went out this Wednesday to defend something other than a game.

The color orange broke the traditional mixture of blue, white and red of their uniforms and was set in every wrist as a symbol of commitment with a cause that everyday finds more supporters in the country. They were clear in the message: “The Bulls of Camagüey hope to live in a world where no girl or woman is victim of abuse”.

Even the conga joined the orange day from the beginning with a “NO” to harassment, control and violence. When the game was half way through, the first base of the locals, Leonel Segura, pledged himself as ambassador of the campaign in this province. At 24 years old, Segura has earned the respect and admiration of the Young people in Camagüey for his integrity as athlete and human being.

“Evoluciona” is led by the Center Oscar Arnulfo Romero, the Federation of Cuban Women, the Sex Education National Center and the Center of Studies about Youth. In Camagüey, it has already allied with the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation and especially in the baseball franchise.

Although the board reflected a loosing score for the local team, the over 10 000 fans filling the harrows of the “Cándido” stadium entered in the called Era of the Evolution led by the hand of their sport heroes, and thus they won.
