HAVANA.- Cuban long jumper Juan Miguel Echevarria, from Camagüey, won the crown at the 58th Ostrava Golden Spike meeting, in the Czech Republic, to repeat his performance here last year.
Echevarria, Birmingham 2018 World Indoor champion, won this time with a jump of 8.32 meters, just two centimeters below his season best.
He was escorted by Greek Miltiadis Tentoglou (7.95) and Italian Filippo Randazzo (7.83), according to the IAAF official website.
The outstanding Cuban athlete owns the meeting record, when he reached last year 8.66 meters, only five centimeters shy from Ivan Pedroso´s Cuban national record.
Just a few days ago, on June 16, Echevarria jumped 8.34 meters in the sixth stop of the IAAF Diamond League based in Rabat, Morocco, where earned the title and eight points.
With that record he appears third in the world ranking headed by American Jeff Henderson (8.38 m), Rio 2016 Olympic monarch; while South African Luvo Manyonga (8.35) ranks second.
