CAMAGÜEY.- Since there is no evidence in the medical literature on surgical interventions on the knees by arthroscopy, specifically in the Eduardo Agramonte Piña teaching pediatric hospital, in this city, the first two are considered to be those carried out successfully by the team led by the Doctor of Medical Sciences Alejandro Álvarez López.
The Second Degree specialist in Orthopedics and Traumatology, Professor and Senior Researcher and Master in Medical Emergencies, explained that this procedure consists of an operation with minimal access, few resources and a high degree of effectiveness and efficiency, without forgetting that it provides faster recovery of the affected patient, costs and hospital stay are reduced.
Fabián A. López Hernández, 17 years old, resident in Florida, was the first patient to benefit from a midpatellar synovial plica and a radial injury to the lateral meniscus of the right knee; while Adam Jesús Cardoso Rodríguez, 14 years old, from the provincial capital municipality, who suffered from patellofemoral instability on the right knee, was the second minor patient intervened by this modality. Both are in their homes in the process of recovery.
Adam Jesús shows his knee marked by the specialist who indicates where to do the surgical approach.
At his young age, and before being operated on, Cardoso Rodríguez said he felt confident, as did Yanisael, his mother, who thanked the attention received from the moment she took her son to the emergency room of the aforementioned hospital on last May 11th, when they were received by the specialist in Orthopedics and Traumatology and head of that service, Dr. Ariel Martínez Morell, who made the diagnosis.
The medical team involved in the two surgeries included the specialist in Anesthesiology and Resuscitation, Dr. Yuneyris Rodríguez Pérez, and Dr. Daniel Serrano González, specialist in Orthopedics and Resuscitation.
These surgical acts were preceded by this practice in children around 20 years ago, but at the Manuel Ascunce Domenech University Hospital in this city.
Yanisael, Adam's mother, acknowledged the care received by doctors, nursing staff and everyone in general.
