An article on the webpage of the Illinois-based WQAD 8 radio station quoted Carl Sandburg College president Dr. Lori Sundberg as saying that Cuba is a totally different world and that she hopes to learn about Cuban history and culture.

Meanwhile,Black Hawk College President Bettie Truitt will also take part in the trip.

Sundberg noted that “It’s just a tremendous opportunity to go to a country where education is held in such high regard.”

Cuba has tried to do more with less for decades.As Illinois schools face financial challenges, there are some similarities within vast differences, said the official.

“I want to take a look at how they’ve been able to accomplish what they have with very limited resources,” she said.

The Illinois delegation will be bridging cultures and climates for education,the article explains and adds that these will be real lessons about life to connect Cuba with Illinois olleges.

Recently, the US Semester at Sea visited Cuba and shared with local students and professors and at present a group of students from the United States is touring several cities on the island to have a first-hand look at Cuban reality.
