HAVANA.- The Historian of Havana, Eusebio Leal, iconic personality of Cuba, died at the age of 77 today morning, victim of a painful disease.

Leal, born in Havana on September 11, 1942, was a revolutionary, intellectual, speaker and researcher, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and deputy to the National Assembly of the People's Power.

He was a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador and advisor on the issue for the Eradication of Poverty at the UN Development Program and was also Doctor Honoris Causa from various universities in Latin America and Europe.

He conducted a commendable restoration in the historic center of Havana.Leal was awarded and decorated by heads of state, governments, national institutions and world organizations.
