CAMAGÜEY.- Soon after taking over their positions, the 15 members of the Provincial Electoral Committee (CEP, Spanish acronym)reaffirmed their fidelity to the Concept of Revolution by observing a minute of silence and placing a wreath in the Jimaguayú Hall, Major General Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz Square, where the ashes of the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro remained guarded from December 1st to the 3rd, 2016, on their way to the Santa Ifigenia Cemetery in Santiago de Cuba.
In response to the announcement of the General Elections of the Council of State, and by designation of the National Assembly of People´s Power, the CEP is constituded by Mariano Basulto Perez, president; Denia Morejón Reyes, vicepresident; Luis Alberto Hinojosa Torres, secretary; and 12 spokesmen, who signed the Ethical Commitment Statement, read on their behalf by the spokeswoman Adys Iraola Martínez.
Gerania Rodríguez Rodríguez, from the National Electoral Committee, read the Article 22, item C of the Law 72, Electoral Act that validates the previously mentioned summons of the general suffrage, planned every five years for the election of delegates to the provincial local organs and to the Cuban Parliment. The elections of deputies to the municipal assemblies take place every two years and a half.
The solemn ceremony was celebrated in the Nicolás Guillén Hall, in the monument to El Mayor, chaired by the member of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party, Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca, prime secretary in Camagüey, and the Deputy Isabel González Cárdenas, president of the Provincial Assembly, who, after signing the Ethical Commitment Statement of the members of the CEP, summarized the activity with certainty that they will work honorably and transparently during the elections … ”as Fidel, who for the first time will not be with us physically but remains in the heart of the revolutionary men, always taught us, today we have a paramount task ahead”.
The president of the Provincial Electoral Committee, Mariano Basulto Pérez informed that this Tuesday the members of the thirteen municipal electoral committees will take over their respective positions, in this province, whose solemn acts will be devoted to the Commander in Chief Fidel, architect of the Cuban political system, the most democratic and popular system of the world, from the streets to the National Assembly.
