This was expressed in this city, head office of the Vth ARTECOMIC meet, by Arturo Delgado, compiler of the volume Los hijos de  Quasar, that with the participation of the outstanding Cuban drawer Arístides Hernández (ARES) and other authors of this manifestation saw the light thanks to Ediciones Luminaria, of Sancti Spíritus.

Until now, only in this province and in Cienfuegos projects have materialized at local level for the edition of texts of this type, perhaps for being considered mistakenly of an esthetic value lower than the narrative, the poetry or the essay, mentioned Delgado.

Nothing more distant from the reality, since the communication across the comic or the caricature takes an immense worth as an element of popular expression that in the Cuban press, for example, reached an essential role throughout the whole XXth century, said the also publisher of the newspaper Escambray, of Sancti Spíritus.

Sponsored by the Provincial Council of Visual Arts, ARTECOMIC is celebrated annually with creative workshops, conferences, exhibits and projections of audio-visuals related to the topic and contests.

In this opportunity it was dedicated to Spain, which first registered cartoon story, “Historia de las desgracias de un hombre  afortunado”, was edited in Cuba in the XIXth century.

Its author, Víctor Patricio de Landaluze, was a Basque military man settled in the Caribbean nation, and his work appeared on September 20th, 1857 in La Charanga, literary and satirical magazine, meanwhile the first examples in the properly peninsular press date of 1864.
