CAMAGÜEY.- César Endris Acosta Martínez, a graduate of the Máximo Gómez Báez Vocational Pre-University Institute of Exact Sciences (IPVCE) of Camagüey, obtained a bronze medal in the 55th edition of the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO 2023), held in Switzerland this year , from last July 16th to 25th.

As the young man commented to the Cuban News Agency, after six years without Cuba achieving a laurel in this type of event, achieving such a result, along with another colleague from the province of Artemisa, was an honor for him, since the competition theoretical and laboratory level tested the knowledge of representatives from 90 countries.

Although in 2022 he reached silver in the Ibero-American Chemistry Olympiad, he stated, this is the first time he has participated in the IChO, a meeting that allowed him to demonstrate the preparation received from his coaches, including professor Julio Antonio Rodríguez Benítez, with 30 years of experience in that work.

With César we carried out a very deep training, since he was taught topics from all the edges of the contest program conceived for this subject in pre-university education, and from his discipline and consecration he was able to achieve this dream, highlighted Rodríguez Benítez.

The young man says that since he was in ninth grade, science awakened in him a special motivation, and to the extent that he began to study and investigate it, he formed his own style to solve the exercises.

Learning this subject, he points out, is divided into Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry, and although I like the first one better, my best results have been in Inorganic Chemistry.

At the end of my studies at the IPVCE where, in addition, I reached gold medals in the national Chemistry competitions in eleventh and twelfth grades, it is now up to me to fulfill the Active Military Service and then begin the Physics career in Higher Education, without disconnecting of Chemistry, he specified.

Rodríguez Benítez meant that during the 2022-2023 school year, in the National Chemistry Contest, 10 students from the province won medals, four of them gold, one silver and five bronze, while five students participated in the preparation of the national preselection.

In the next month of October, he informed him, two students will participate in the Ibero-American Olympiad that Ecuador will organize in a virtual format and in which the representation from Camagüey must demonstrate their skills in the theoretical and practical exams.

The achievements that we show today, he said, are due to the unity between the coaches and students, and this teamwork has allowed us to prepare them first for life, so that the use of the best bibliographies and new technologies, together with laboratory activities, raise their competitive level to compete in Cuba and internationally.
