CAMAGÜEY.- The 28th edition of the Emilio Ballagas National Award 2022, dedicated to short stories, received 27 works and the result will be made public on November 7th, the 114th anniversary of the birth of the Camagüey's author who identifies the contest.

Rafael de Águila (Havana), Félix Sánchez (Ciego de Ávila), and Rubén Rodríguez (Holguín) make up the jury of the prestigious contest organized by the Provincial Book and Literature Center of Camagüey.

The event associated with the Prize will take place from the 3rd to the 7th of this month, with a reading program in cultural centers, schools, and communities, book promotions, and a narrative workshop by Rafael de Águila.

A panel, a conversation, and a characterized group from the Nicolás Guillén Foundation will be dedicated to Emilio Ballagas (1908-1954) from Camagüey, winner of the National Poetry Award in 1951 for "Heaven in hostages".

Maikel Sardaña, acting director of the Editorial Ácana that publishes the Ballagas Prize, will offer a panoramic view of the recent winning works, among them, Notas lectivas, by Gizeh Portuondo, from 2019.

“We are doing an event in which the literary avant-garde is participating. It is a book festival, one of those that greater prestige to the territory,” Jorge Santos told the press, on behalf of the Writers branch of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, Uneac.

The opening of the 28th edition of the Emilio Ballagas Award will be at the La Comarca literary café, this Thursday at 9:00 p.m.; and the closing, announced right there, on Monday at 3:00 p.m.
