CAMAGUEY.- A recognition to the work of the medical staff of this province with important results from the work in the Ophthalmology Center, was held during the session in this city of the 1st National Itinerant Congress of Ophthalmology, which began in the country on March 5 and is expected to conclude on November 22 next year.
This territory is an important place in the development of the specialty, with very prestigious professors, who have trained their doctors locally and have been at the forefront in the introduction of new technologies for the care of the population, Juan Raul Hernandez Silva, president of the Cuban Society of Ophthalmology, said at the meeting.
With the participation of a hundred professionals of that branch of medicine, the program of the event, which will be held for the first time in all Cuban provinces, includes conferences and presentations of scientific studies related to current issues in the sector, according to the website of the local radio station Radio Cadena Agramonte.
On this occasion, as part of the scientific activities, several exchanges with updated topics on subspecialties were highlighted, among them Pediatric Ophthalmology, Cataract Surgery and Treatment of Diabetic Macular Edema, which were attended by six prestigious professors of the "Ramon Pando Ferrer" Ophthalmology Center.
The Ophthalmology Center of this province, founded on December 5, 2006, has its roots in the opening of the specialty service in 1964 at the Manuel Ascunce Provincial Hospital, and currently treats pathologies of the retina, glaucoma, oculoplasty, neurophthalmology, cataracts, cornea, refractive surgery and low vision, in addition to pediatric services.
