CAMAGUEY.- Like other Cuban territories, this province is progressively advancing towards normalcy evidenced by the opening on Monday of the new 2021-2022 school year for high school, technical education, pedagogical studies and adult education.

Nearly five thousand students are attending schools in Camaguey in a course that will add elementary and special education as of March 14.

At the new school year provincial ceremony, which took place at the Esteban Borrero Junior High, education director Mercedes Escudero said that all teachers have prepared to assume adaptation of curricula and proceedings aimed at improving the teaching process.

It’s an unusual school year with less weeks, said the official, who requested the understanding and support from the families.

For Marielkis Garcia, mother of an student here, the new school year means leaving the COVID-19 peak and fear behind, though precaution measures must keep in force for everyone, like wearing facemasks, hand sanitation, personal distancing among others.

The school year opening ceremony in Camaguey was attended by local Communist Party and Government leaders as well as representatives of political and grassroots organization.
