CAMAGÜEY.- With 10,247 positives for COVID-19, July became the worst month since the epidemic began in March 2020. In addition, it exceeded the total accumulated cases of the arrival of the disease to June 30, averaging more than 330 daily. With this figure, the province accumulates, only so far this year, 20,190 confirmed.

In the month that just ended, 105 people died, at an average of more than three per day, which placed Camagüey's fatality above the country's average.

In this sense, Juan Jesús Llambías Peláez, director of the Provincial Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology of Camagüey, explained that the causes have more to do with the Health response and the moment when the person arrives to receive medical assistance. Added to this is the presence of the South African strain since the end of June, although the appearance of others is not ruled out, especially since the most complicated situation is presented by the border territories with the Ciego de Ávila province: Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, with 1809 cases per 100,000 inhabitants; Florida, with 1 785, and Esmeralda, with 1 210, which may suggest the presence of the delta strain.

The provincial capital territory has 881 patients for every 100,000 inhabitants. The rest, all show rates above 100, which brings the province's rate to 786.9, maintaining the growth of recent weeks.

Controls are currently being carried out in 1 954 active outbreaks and 43 transmission events accumulate in the year, 21 of them already closed, while the remaining 22 are spread over six territories. The age group that most confirmed contributes is between 26 and 40 years old, with 4,806 positive cases so far in 2021.

In the last 15 days there has been a marked rise in the number of patients, with 6,028, of them 39 travelers, three with a source of infection to be specified and 5,986 contacts of confirmed cases, so this group continues to be the one with the largest epidemiological complexity.

The epidemiological situation in the province is very complex and requires the responsible action of the population to protect itself and to complete the immunization process that will put us in better conditions to face the disease.
