CAMAGÜEY.- Change, that was the word most repeated by the newly elected president of Ecuador when he learned the results of the elections, once again the right took over the term while the left did not know what new thing to propose. That same mistake gave the victory to Macrismo in Argentina and Bukele in El Salvador. They try, and they do it very easily, to reconstruct popular imaginaries, while their opposites do not create different semantics capable of counteracting those strategies.
Why let us take the floor if no one changes countries more than a genuine and revolutionary process?
Cuba has not been exempt from these supposed requests for change, promoted precisely by those who never wanted to change anything and now need a touch of modernity to draw people and take over semantics, meanings. Pulses, pullovers and even radios came, with that word that was just that, a simple drawing, because its promoters represented and still represent the most conservative and retrograde of anti-Cuban thought.
When I think of the change, the real change and not those fallacies, I cannot help but think of the Cuban Revolution, the process that has most transformed the island in all sectors of Cuban life.
In socialism, the one that we arrive at through an endogenous process, from within society and that no one from the outside had to impose on us, the one that these days has been proclaimed for 60 years and is the only possible way for, in a country like Cuba, we all live more or less well, and without egalitarianism guarantee to distribute the little we have among all.
In the change that outsiders are trying to invite us to, we have no other future than that of any poor country in Central America and the Caribbean.
Revolution is to change everything that must be changed, there is the maxim, Fidel said it because he knew that there was no possible revolution without profound transformation, and as long as the changes and the speed of those changes are decided by the insiders, in consultation with the majorities and minorities, there is no need to fear them. From the change of mentality, so demanded and rarely realized, to the decisive in the structure of the country are necessary. That is precisely revolution. The process that we began in 1959 could not and cannot remain stagnant, because it would lose its very essence.
We are living another transformative Congress, and not only this one, which is the Eighth; from the first, these appointments always change, revolutionize, perfect a model that is unique in the world. To those who accuse the Cuban Communist Party of being conservative and stuck in the past, it should be remembered that it was in 2011 that same Party that projected and promoted the most profound transformations of the last 10 years within the economic system, so profound that we still live with them, a decade later, and that they were the result of an extensive popular process and not decided from an office and put into practice at a stroke, as happens in other parts of this world.
Few countries are capable of changing so much without external agents. For that, we must be clear about where we come from and where we are going. However, the international press, the one that represents the interests of the powerful, continues to present a Cuba mired in the past, they do not count the new economic model, much less the Constitution proclaimed two years ago, nor the monetary and exchange unification.
Why don't they tell it? Because they have not been promoted by color revolutions or by the people who serve their interests, because we have decided them and that cannot appear on their pages, it is an example too strong.
Let's not rule out the possibility, then, that someone will sell us a change again that would mean setback rather than advance. It is what is fashionable and with proven effectiveness.
Is there to continue to change? Well, yes, our work is still perfectible and unfinished, a social system that, with all the obstacles that have been placed on it, 60 years later continues to show that it is superior. A socialism that defended itself with blood just hours after proclaiming itself and that, despite all the cons, we Cubans continue to build, determined not to fail in the attempt.
