The plan gathers a set of measures to short, medium and long term that eradicate gradually the principal pollutant foci, with special emphasis on the big industries like that of Wires and Electrodes, Cement 26 de Julio, Chemical Company Revolución de Octubre and the Thermoelectric 10 de Octubre.

It also includes the hydrographic basin of the river Saramaguacán, the most extensive of the province, which waters end in this bay and drag with it residues from the sugar plants Siboney and of the towns of Sibanicú and Nuevitas.

The project foresees the rehabilitation or construction of treatment systems of residuals, the maintenance of the lagoons of oxidation, the elimination of leakings and the cleanliness of channels and drainages, actions that will have to be included in the investment plans of each of the involved entities.

Andrea Armas Rodríguez, provincial delegate of the Department of Science, Technology and the Environment, tells that for the conservation of the ecosystem is of big importance the strict respect of the current regulations, the only way to preserve the life in the area.

Nuevitas Bay is considered by the specialists like one of the most healthy of the country in pollution terms that, nevertheless, does not escape of the evil caused by the systematical poisonous substances in its waters.

Since 1997 there exists a group of work integrated by 28 organisms and entities to contribute to the rescue of the cove of 42 square kilometers, where there converge economic activities as the marine-port, tourist, fishing and industrial one.
