Examples of the quality of our boxing are those of the Camagüeyans, in the multichampion Adolfo Horta and more recently Julio Cesar la Cruz, both real exponents of this art and the rapid and accurate blows to the body or face of the opponents.
Certainly it is not my intention and I am not considered capable of it, of dictating a lecture on the sport of the fists that so many glories has harvested for our country, to such a point that it is considered to be, because it has been earned, a real potency in this art that is realized on the ring.
The matter is that the bobing and weaving (boxer who moves very much in the North American slang) has turned into a quality that the Cubans, because it is the experience that I have, do not doubt that in other places it is quite similar or equal, has been forced to develop also to avoid to be struck or to suffer fortuitous accidents when they pass for one of our streets.
It is not just the fact that the local routes are narrow, but to every step they are full of obstacles, human or material, perpetual or occasional, but their constitute a threat, a danger.
If you see someone conversing in the sidewalk where you pass, be prepare to move aside, with agility, as if you were avoiding a punch, because at the moment of the crossing you can be struck by an arm or an elbow of the one that gesticulates exaggeratedly, and cause you an injury, and do not go down the street without looking back first, forward later and finally up because the bicycle, the tricycle, the wagon or any rolling appliance, they can go out where less you can imagine.
Attention, now with this sun that "crushes stones", umbrella at sight, do not think it twice, bend over as if a left swing was trying to hit you.
If you usually use a route to go to work, identify the houses with grills and especially towards what side they open (almost always to the left and for the street, violating the town-planning ordinance), because it is possible that, while passing in front of it, it is opened suddenly.
In the course of the fight we see boxers doing some kind of dissimulations with the feet, as if there were artistic steps, apparently preparing an action from a better position, practice it whenever it is possible, because it is very probable that in your morning walks you need it to avoid the physiological waste of the puppy or of the big dog, which early did his needs in the route.
These and other reasons that I do not mention, are those that make me think, that the "weaving" is not just a quality of our boxing school, that it has brought many dividends, but it is a patrimony also of us the Camagüeyans and the Cuban.
