CAMAGÜEY.- The Provincial Book Center of Camagüey favors the social life of authors residing in this city, Cradle of Cuban Literature, with the approval of eight projects by authors from Guáimaro, Minas and Camagüey.
Among the proposals is the peña Nuestro décimo café (Our tenth coffee), by Yadira Troche. Dedicated to the décima, the national verse of Cuba, it will have a bimonthly frequency on the first Tuesday and third Thursday at 4:00 p.m. in the Severo Sarduy bookstore.
Due to the lack of electrical service in the center of this city, the initial edition took place at the La Comarca literary café, with a structure focused on dialogue with the guest, readings and participation games with the public.
“The intention is for the tenth singers and writers who have ever explored it to come through here. It is a front in defense of the tenth,” said the host, a neurologist by profession, and with a growing work in the field of writing.
Yadira Troche won the Cucalambé Prize in Décima Escrita 2022 and the Manuel Navarro Luna National Poetry Prize 2023, among others. She leads the group La Rueda Dentada, with gatherings on virtual networks and at the headquarters of the Nicolás Guillén Foundation branch.
She opened Our tenth coffe with the poet and cultural promoter Diusmel Machado, who has valued the décima as “a very peculiar form of poetic discourse on this island,” with the potential to surprise in the international market.
This guest always offers lessons because he does not miss an opportunity to name the countrymen, around twenty, registered in his curious map of the Guaimaro author movement. He takes care of them, of their literature, regardless of the geographical point of the world where they live.
Thus began one of the eight projects approved by the management of the Book Center. The institution increased the options of the monthly programming, now with 86 activities between clubs and characterized spaces, deputy director Osvaldo Betancourt told Adelante Digital.
