CAMAGÜEY.- Camagüey's culture is part of the daily activities of our city and is an important link between heritage in all its forms and society, said last night Dixamis Rodríguez Gómez, deputy to the National Assembly and president of the Municipal Assembly of People's Power, in the traditional address from the balconies of the City Hall, with which the program for the anniversary of the founding of the town of Santa María del Puerto del Príncipe begins every year; from the first to the seventh of February.
On its new anniversary, Camagüey shows the world its Historic Center, a World Heritage Site, as a jewel of our country and with it the enhancement of its culture of firm princely roots.
During her speech, the president of the territory said that even in the midst of complex adversities, defying the impossible, this will be a cultural event, which we will celebrate with modesty, the valuable spiritual contribution of this Week of Culture, from which we will emerge stronger in thoughts and knowledge, to overcome the challenges of the present and the future.
Subsequently, and as part of the inaugural program for the city's 509th anniversary and with it the agenda for Culture Week, the stage of the Principal Theater offered the inaugural gala scheduled to culminate the night. On this occasion, the agenda should be highlighted and one of the best artistic shows shown in the Principal in recent years.
In this 2023, numerous institutions are recognized for their performance in the development and strengthening of local culture, including the 75th anniversary of the Maravilla de Florida orchestra and the Casablanca cinema; the 60th anniversary of the creation of the Julio Antonio Mella provincial library, as well as other institutions, including the Ignacio Agramonte birthplace museum, the Revolution Square, the Cuban Fund for Cultural Assets and the programs of the System of Houses of Cultures and Artistic Education.
Numerous local cultural facilities open their doors to exhibitions, workshops, conferences, social, historical and artistic research events, such as the Alejo Carpentier gallery, the city's cultural houses and the student museums and the birthplace of El Mayor.
This Thursday, the anniversary date of our city, government authorities in the municipality deposited an offering in the name of the city before the sculptural ensemble of Major General Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz and later the Philatelic Circle proceeded to officially cancel a stamp for the 509th anniversary of the city, previous step to the artistic parade from that emblematic; square to the park of The Legends.
During the day, 509th Anniversary layettes will be delivered at the Maternity Hospital and at eight o'clock at night the 33rd City Hall will be inaugurated in the Alejo Carpentier Gallery, as a preamble to the Extraordinary Assembly of the Municipal Government in San Juan de Dios Square.
