CAMAGÜEY.- The emotional landscapes that the young man from Camagüey, Víctor Manuel Cisneros Álvarez, exhibits in the República 289 gallery, in this city, recall the anecdote of the Spaniard Joan Miró when under a blue stain on a white canvas he wrote “this is the color of my dreams”.

Vity Cisneros, as his friends know him, is 24 years old and gives a second personal sample to his hometown, Spectrum. Notes in Blue, of 33 pieces made during the harshest confinement due to the COVID-19.

In dialogue with Adelante Digital, the artist said that it is not just a compilation of pieces, but of feelings, sensations, in the change of worldviews, in the way of dealing with variations in context.

“Painting and the cathartic action of color serve as a gestural and artistic escape from the maelstrom of feelings generated by the epidemiological situation. However, it is necessary to opt for a hopeful look at the whole dilemma. Hence, in the midst of the formal chaos in the pieces, there is a marked interest in the use of different colors ─and their most vivid tones─ as potential generators of positive sensations in the viewer”, he insisted.

The opening of Spectrum. Notes in Blue included a performance by the artist himself. The music was composed and performed exclusively by Alejandro Martell Señaris from Camagüey.

“It aspired to generate an exchange between the viewer and art, with the abstract language of painting in connection with music. The sample was originally thought for Camagüey. A large part of the pieces was produced here, most of them are unpublished”, he emphasized.

Vity Cisneros is one of the children trained in the Pincel con Alma de Beso (Brush with Kiss Soul) community workshop, by plastic artist Martha Jiménez. Despite three unsuccessful attempts to access the Vicentina de la Torre Academy of Arts, he did not dismiss his artistic career, after completing pre-university at the Álvaro Morell school.

“In 2017 I was accepted to study at the Isa University of the Arts, after passing their competitive aptitude exams. It was not until the following year that he made his debut as an artist in the group exhibition Transeúntes, within the framework of the 4th National Conference of the Young Heritage Conservator, in Havana. I have already participated in 14 exhibitions, of which four are personal”, he said.

He recently graduated in the Conservation profile of the Heritage Conservation and Restoration major. He plans to stay in the capital, receiving a job placement in the Isa University Extension Directorate, where he worked in the management of projects and Arts Festivals.

“Camagüey has a great cultural boom and interesting projects to develop and make visible the visual arts and the work of its artists; although without a doubt, in all the capitals there are more opportunities for young people, not to mention that I started my work as a visual artist in Havana”, he commented.

However, his persistence in exhibiting here reaffirms the desire to bond with Camagüey, due to the awareness of his roots and as proof of the son who returns to show the fruit of Vity Cisneros' tenacious dreams.
