CAMAGÜEY.-When the pandemic began, what was known about Oscar Jr. Rodríguez Martínez (Florida, 1979) through social networks we owe to his girlfriend. He was reluctant to those spaces on the Internet. Thanks to her, he began to appear little by little, and he has taken so much pleasure in it that he set himself the challenge of publishing the result of painting abstraction projects every morning.

Among the searches in his notebooks, the exhibition Open Record was born, a way to celebrate 25 years of artistic career. Geometry and color are key to the pulsating sensory experience in the set of eight works that, as long as the epidemiological situation does not improve, we can only appreciate in a virtual way.

In the catalog, Lily Vega Adán, partner in life and the most fervent student on the job site, recognizes creative maturity with this shake from abstract expressionism, the result of the apprehensions of Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning and Mark Rothko. All three belonged to the group coined with the label of American action painting, from the 1940s.

The exhibition had a face-to-face opening with a small group because the subsidiary of the Cuban Fund for Cultural Assets insisted on thanking him for his first personal exhibition at the Amalia Gallery, as the beginning of a new stage of mutual collaboration.

That afternoon he received the praise of people who have seen him grow, in his role as public officials of cultural institutions. They also read messages from their friend Osmany Soler and the director of the Vicentina de la Torre Academy of Arts, where he teaches the Fundamental Sculpture Workshop and an optional Ceramic Workshop.

His father, Oscar Rodríguez Lasseria, could not be absent, who contested the anniversary years because “Oscarito was born an artist”, and looking at him emphasized: “You are an excellent art worker. You have learned and studied the spiritual attunement of art very well. I demand that you continue to be a good teacher and a good artist ”.

Although Oscar Jr. has shared images on his profiles on Instagram and Facebook, the Open Record sample will soon be available on the Behart platform (Collaborative Network of Visual Arts Online) little explored by the creators based in Camagüey. He is one of the two inserted there, occupied by taking advantage of professional spaces for the art circuit that is consolidated in the digital ecosystem.

For him it is the second abstract art personal, after Palíndromos, in 2019, although according to Adán Vega, curator and professor of Art and Literature, the dynamism of his brushstrokes has had the benefit of expressive freedom and the challenge to imagination throughout its performance.

Open registry will not be the only excuse to look back at his prolific work. Under the sign of the pandemic, Oscar Jr. has brought about five exhibitions to life in his workshop. Most wait for the best opportunity to come out into the open. In addition, in his style morning gymnastics he has been going for more than 100 uninterrupted days, and therefore overwhelming enthusiasm, he does not have when to finish.
