HAVANA - The host Camagüey won this Monday eight of the 10 bouts in its debut against Sancti Spíritus in the National Team Boxing Series, held until Sunday at the Rafael Fortún Chacón Multipurpose Hall, and is already threatening to assert its favoritism to retain the title of this tournament.
The final score was 54 points to 22 for their rivals, with a clear superiority of Camagüey's fighters, in line with the strong work done by this province in the sport of fists.
On Monday, the Matanzas team also won, beating Pinar del Río 45-33, while in the first of three bouts, Cienfuegos and Guantánamo tied at 40 points.
Among the most awaited bouts by specialists and fans, due to the first level international endorsement of both, was that of the subtitle of the orb Saidel Horta (57 kg), from Cienfuegos, and Rolando Martinez (GTM), champion of the Cologne 2023 World Cup, with a 3-0 victory for the former.
Another with credit in the elite and success was the Olympic champion in Paris 2024 Erislandy Alvarez (63.5 kg-CFG), who beat Jesus Leon (GTM) by RSC.
Seven squads are participating in the tournament, reinforced, as is traditional in this type of event, with fighters from the provinces that failed to qualify for the finals.
In addition to Camagüey, Sancti Spíritus, Matanzas, Pinar del Río, Cienfuegos, and Guantánamo, Holguín, which had its rest day, is also present.
The program on the 18th announces that Holguín-Cienfuegos, Sancti Spíritus-Guantánamo will be in action in the ring, with a break for Matanzas.
