CAMAGÜEY.- The Panthers of Camagüey finalize details to fight for one of the two tickets that will be disputed for the next Superior Basketball League when the squads from the center of the country meet at the Rafael Fortún Chacón Sports Palace.

This week the National Basketball Commission announced the celebration of the National Women's Promotion Tournament (TNA) in three qualifying zones, starting this August 24th, and the multipurpose hall of this city will host the actions in the central section.

The central zone will be animated by the teams from Villa Clara, Sancti Spíritus, Ciego de Ávila and Camagüey, and will be played under a system of all against all, with two rounds for each team.

For ours, this championship is crucial in their aspirations to improve the sixth seat of the previous edition of the LSB, which they attended as guests. It will also be the first opportunity to pay tribute at home to the older Panther, Leydis Oquendo, almost a year after her tragic death.

Several weeks ago the girls directed by Migdelis Millet trained on the "Fortún" court and the tactical performance looks better and better. According to the technical director, this is a higher team than a year ago, since important figures such as Melissa Despaigne and Leyanet Segura from Las Tunas, both members of the national preselection, have been incorporated.

According to Nelly Brooks, provincial commissioner for the discipline, "the group is balanced, since experienced athletes like Betsy Herrera, Yusely Cárdenas or Ana de Jesús are joined by a batch of youthful athletes with a lot of projection. The immediate goal is to be between the two first of this TNA to continue in the elite and that our girls gain more and more cohesion".

The matches will start at two in the afternoon for the first challenge, while each day is completed at four o'clock with the second commitment. The competition will last until August 30th after a dozen matches, with a rest day for the 27th of this month.

In April, Cuba concluded the previous version of the Superior Basketball League with the victory for the second consecutive opportunity of the Santiago de Cuba team, which competes in the eastern zone. However, the result of the central tournament is the most difficult to predict, since most of the teams have a very even level. For this reason, each game is expected to be like a final and emotions are guaranteed on each day.
