HAVANA, CUBA.- The United States is manipulating the human rights topic to undermine Cuba's constitutional order, denounced Ana Silvia Rodriguez Abascal, Cuban Alternate Permanent Representative and Charge d'Affaires to the United Nations.

In her statement during the general debate of the Third Committee of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly, the Cuban representative pointed out that the COVID-19 pandemic should not be taken as an excuse to push forward unilateral agendas or to impose the views of one group of countries on others.

There should not be space for selective practices, punitive approaches and double standards, expressed Rodriguez Abascal, according to a statement from the Cuban foreign ministry on its website.

The diplomat mentioned as an example the case of Cuba, where the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States has been tightened during the pandemic and has hindered efforts to confront it and protect the health of the people, which confirms the criminal and genocidal nature of this policy, which violates international law.

For years, the United States has been manipulating the subject of human rights against Cuba, a justification it needs for its criminal behavior against the island, demonstrated in the financing of agendas to undermine and modify the Cuban constitutional order as it pleases, the Cuban representative to the UN con concluded.
