HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 13 (ACN) Cuba reaffirms its interest in becoming a MICE (meetings, incentives, congresses and exhibitions) tourism destination and by 2020 it eady has 227 scheduled events, including conventions, workshops, fairs and festivals.

With an international, national, foreign participation and host sites, the meetings will deal with different issues such as agriculture and engineering; legal and political sciences; economics, accounting, administration and industry; information technology and telecommunications; tourism, among others.

Dalila Alba Gonzalez, deputy director general of marketing at the Ministry of Tourism (Mintur), explained at the launch of the events calendar for the coming year that the most highly developed areas include art, culture, society and communication (43); sport and physical culture (41); science, technology and environment (36), education (32) and health (30).

Cuba is a perfect destination for meetings of all branches of knowledge and categories, and the development of this modality is a substantial part of its working strategy, the specialist added.

She also stated that Mintur has proposed to create a department responsible for organizing, designing and executing actions aimed at regulating, fostering, attracting and developing events and incentives in the country.

Cuba is a member of the Federation of Latin American Congress Organizing Entities, International Congress and Convention Associations (ICCA) , American Fairs and Congress Centers, as well as the International Union of Exhibitions and Fairs (IUEF).
