HAVANA.- Representatives of the Cuba´s National Office of Hydrography and Geodesy (ONHG by its Spanish acronym) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the United States held a bilateral meeting within the framework of the 19th meeting of the Meso-American and Caribbean Hydrographic Commission (MACHC) running in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, from November 26 to December 1, 2018.

A note released today by the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the US delegation was headed by Shepard Smith, Director of the NOAA´s Office of Coast Survey, while the Cuban representation was chaired by Jorge Martin Ruiz, ONHG director.

During the meeting, a balance was made of compliance with the agreed actions for the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the areas of Hydrography and Geodesy and related services of mutual interest to improve the safety of maritime navigation signed by both parties in March 2016, and future actions to be developed in the coming two years were identified.

The representatives of both countries ratified the will to continue promoting cooperation and the exchange of experiences and scientific information in benefit of the maritime security of the space shared by Cuba and the United States.
