CAMAGUEY. - (ACN) The Zoo of Camaguey, placed in the Casino Campestre, the most extensive urban park of Cuba, will benefit with the restoration of its collection of animals.

The exhibition of specimens that today add up more than a thousand, belonging to 105 species, is depressed, commented Eddy Jorge Garay, manager of the above-mentioned installation, at the same time he assured that this will be reversed with the integration to the Cuban Company of Zoos in next September.

A lioness bore three cubs, and other expectant one is the novelty these days in this center of Camagüey, where there was also the assisted reproduction of antelopes donated in the year 2012 and 2013 by the Republic of Namibia to the National Zoological garden, included in a collection of 144 animals of 22 species.

The latter installation, with a good procreation per year, of more than 200 specimens, will help to renew the animal population in Camagüey´s zoo, together with other areas of this type located in the provinces of Villa Clara, Ciego de Ávila and Santiago de Cuba.

Jorge Garay, pointed out as other benefits the logistic insurance for the transport services, gastronomic, the information and the communications, the feeding of the animals, and the development of programs of investment to improve the conditions of the places of exhibition.

Yamilét Rodríguez Carrillo, director of Animal Well-being, referred to the need to be provided with qualified personnel that should put into practice the advances of the science and the technique with the intention of preserving the species in the above-mentioned facilities.

The projection of strategies that guarantee the animal well-being of the patrimony of the wild fauna in captivity, and the preservation of the threatened endemic fauna, is included between the actions to develop, affirmed the director.
