With the apprehensions of April and May, months of maximum production, and the intensive fishing of June and in what goes of July in several reservoirs affected by the drought, the fishermen only need 1 600 tons to meet the plan annual of Camagüey, which since the beginnings of the current year obtain promising outcomes.

“Reservoirs as Muñoz, in Florida, and Najasa 1 had between the two approximately 600 tons in the months of the productive peak. We had to worked this way due to the scarcity of the precipitations and the development of the biomass at these dams.

“In what it goes of the year we exceed the plans and capture 1.5 million more of specimens”, specified Ernesto Veloz Atencio, production manager of the Fishing Company of Camagüey (PESCACAM).

The manager informed that the most affected dams due to the scourge of the drought are those dedicated to the fries breeding, although also reservoirs destined for the production present serious difficulties like El Porvenir, in Esmeralda and Jimaguayú, the biggest of the province, where in these moments work several brigades for the opportune extraction.

The tench, carp, tilapia and claria constitute the principal species exploited in the territory, which occupied the second national place in the first semester only overcome by Sancti Spíritus, whose annual plans scarcely exceed 400 tons.
