CAMAGÜEY.- The first newspaper founded by the Cuban Revolution, Adelante, celebrated a new birthday with the mission of being the voice of the people of the largest region of the largest of the Antilles.
Precisely in conversations with a young journalist, Prensa Latina learned first-hand what it has been like for Daicar Saladrigas González to direct this weekly newspaper in the last decade in complex times but committed to the truth.
“Since I was a Journalism student and since I came for the first time, the group was responsible for letting me know that I had arrived at a place where I could be happy,” she says.
Graduated from the Universidad de Oriente in Santiago de Cuba, she is also a member of the Cuban Parliament for the municipality of Camagüey, and assured that her intention upon her arrival was to “learn a lot about the profession, in the place where I could spend my days without problems.”
Regarding the opportunity to lead a work group where the vast majority had more experience, she expressed: They share lessons with you. Because you also say to yourself "well, I wouldn't like to go down this path," she says before expressing respect for all of her counterparts in the institution founded in January 1959.
“There were people with more than 50 years in the profession when I took office, and the newspaper was already half a century old. And I had to direct people who had made the Adelante newspaper,” she says.
Saladrigas' constant dedication and commitment to her readers achieved sufficient chemistry with her work group.
And I gained the confidence to tell them: “put on your editor's shirt and tell me what you would have done.” Or how we would do it differently. That is what has allowed me with some success to be in this office,” she explains.
Based in the third most populated city in Cuba, the weekly “continues to have the same essence since its emergence with the task of reinventing itself and sustaining itself with the Revolution itself,” the interviewee commented for 2022.
With each month of January, the newspaper Adelante, the main press organ of the Communist Party of Cuba in the province, lives and celebrates the triumph of the Revolution, with ideals that remain alive and latent to tell the reality of a socialist process, a beacon and guide to the towns of Latin America.
