CAMAGÜEY.-With the immunization of Leida González Girol, in office 3 of the East Health area of the city of Camagüey, the process of health intervention by risk territory with the Cuban vaccine candidate Abdala began.

The highest authorities of the municipality arrived at this clinic, as well as a team from the Ministry of Public Health that includes Abdala's main researcher, Sonia Resik Aguirre, head of the Virology Department of the Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine and head of the health intervention with that vaccine candidate.

Dr. Resik Aguirre explained to Adelante.cu that the most important thing is to continue complying with the containment measures and thus take care of the vaccine candidate, which is still in the process of being certified by the regulatory entity. She insisted on Abdala's safety and the need to adhere to the three-dose schedule of the vaccine.

Leida González said that she felt good and very happy to have received the dose, as part of the age group over 60 years of age that began the immunization process. In the course of the following 14 days, the rest of the Camagüey population over 18 years of age will join.

In the vaccination office of the clinic No. 2 of the Ignacio Agramonte Health area, based in Customs, he received the first dose from Abdala Miguel Borroto, manager of the Camagüey Bulls, who told Adelante.cu that this is the first step to return to the stadiums. "There are no baseball terms to describe this action by the country and make it one more Cuban vaccine."

Borroto stressed that his boys will also receive immunization and this will make them less vulnerable to return to training, once the current peak of infections is controlled.

Carlos Arzola González is a patient at the same clinic No. 2 and could not be vaccinated when it was due to the emotion of the moment and the hypertension, “I hope to be vaccinated today, because I have been waiting for this moment for a long time, which is nothing more than the will of the country to save everyone. Today we have to thank Fidel, promoter of science in Cuba, our scientists, doctors and nurses who have faced the disease for 16 months ”.

Adelante.cu also spoke with Sandor Navarro Julián and Dayana Gómez Muñoz, two medical students who support the health intervention there, with the disinfection of everyone who arrives, as well as the seats located in the waiting area.

"It is our duty to help in the vaccination, it is comforting to be here living this historic moment for everyone," explained Dayana.

In each of the nine vaccinations that began this Monday, there was local artistic talent to liven up the post-vaccination waiting time. Kenny García Hernández, theater instructor at the Amalia Simoni House of Culture, explained that people concentrate so much on the development of cultural numbers that the time passes and they don't even realize it, this reduces stress and with it the risk of reactions such as hypertension.

Modesta Ortega Peña, one of those vaccinated today, assured after the observation time that she did not feel any reaction, “I am happy, I am going home vaccinated and without any difficulty, thanks to the nurse and the doctor in my office for putting on the first dose, although now I will have to continue taking care of myself. "

Essential for this whole process to flow is the community work group. The delegate of circumscription No. 54 of the Agramonte Simoni Popular Council, Luis Ramón Quevedo Fernández, is responsible for four vaccination sites and together with the nearby organizations and entities they were all set up, “for a few days we have been working together with the godparents and today this is a town party, happy for the vaccine, together, I am convinced, we will win this battle too ".

During the week the process will begin in the rest of the vaccination sites in the municipality, which has a population to be vaccinated of more than 200,000 people. After those over 60 years of age, in the following days the rest of the age groups will be incorporated until the first dose is completed, and within 14 days the application of the second round will begin.
