CAMAGÜEY.-After a recognized and sustained professional performance in the study of the work of the Cuba’s National Hero, José Martí, PhD. Matilde Teresa Varela Aristigueta, professor from the University of Camagüey, won the "Abdala" Award given by the Martí Youth Movement.

The Award was given by the Young Communist League, within the framework of the Youth Seminar of Marti’s Studies, this scholar with extensive experience in research related to the work of the Master and as founder and Directive of chairs Marti’s with a high impact on the formation of new generations.

Matilde Varela, member for more than 20 years of the Board of Directors of the Cultural Society José Martí, is also the author of multiple publications that reflect and deepen part of the Apostle's life and work; as well as she maintains an outstanding participation in national and international events.

The teacher also contributes to keep our seniors active and as important subjects with the teaching of the Basic Course of Martí to Camagüey’s students of the elderly who belong to the Chair of the Elderly, attached to the University of Camagüey.

Abdala, is an award instituted by the Martí Youth Movement to distinguish children and young people with meritorious results in the studies about Martí; and it is also given exceptionally to personalities linked to the promotion and socialization of these investigations.
