CAMAGÜEY.- In the next few days the vaccination will begin with the vaccine candidate Abdala, to the different population groups in Camagüey. The intervention will begin with those aged 60 and over without age limits, the segment at greatest risk of complications associated with the COVID-19 disease. More than 720 vaccination sites are already being prepared, in medical offices and other places that meet the conditions required by the current epidemiological situation.

Dr. Sonia María González Vega, Head of Primary Care of the Provincial Directorate of Health and Principal Investigator of the Sanitary Intervention in Health personnel, explained to Adelante.cu that later the age groups of 40 to 59 years old and the from 19 to 39 years old. She added that about 600,000 people are expected to be immunized. This requires an average of 80 vaccinations a day, which requires dynamism and serenity at work.

The medical staff will go to the residences where there are bedridden patients as well as to all the nursing homes in the territory, in an action that they have called Abdala Mobile.

The offices will be reinforced with dentists and medical students to cover the spaces for the observation of patients for one hour after receiving the dose, where they will be evaluated for any adverse reaction, and if necessary they will be transferred to the Health area. However, the specialist referred to the low number of adverse reactions that have been seen during clinical trials and health interventions, which makes the candidate Abdala very reliable.

This process will involve mass organizations, community factors and will have support from the companies surrounding each vaccine site. González Vega emphasized that if the clinic does not meet the minimum conditions that guarantee the biosecurity of the population, the vaccination center is installed in a nearby place.

The specialist commented that the child population, those under 18 years of age, will not participate in this immunization. For such an important population group, other vaccine candidates are being worked on. In addition, exclusion criteria are maintained, including those allergic to thimerosal, pregnant women, women in the puerperium or lactation stage, and people with decompensated chronic diseases.
