FLORIDA, CAMAGÜEY.- The exchange of Florida Agroecological Experiences 2019 gathered in this municipality delegates from different production units of the peasant sector, who gathered at the Icasa farm in the Credit and Services Cooperative (CCS) Frank País García to talk from peasant to peasant about the ways that allow progress in the food program in harmony with nature and without causing damage to the environment.
Among the most relevant issues, the explanation of the causes and consequences of current phenomena such as the disappearance of citrus and fruit species, such as orange, lemon and avocado, under the impact of climate change, the importance of pruning in function stood out of agricultural performance and the use of natural compounds in the fight against pests and diseases.
During the agro-ecological meeting, the voice of Ladislao González, from the CCS José Antonio Echevarría, who spoke on planting projects of protein plants for animal feed and highlighted the need for training of new generations on the care of nature. In addition, he pondered extension work as the basis for the development of sustainable agriculture.
Wiliam Olazabal, associated with the CCS Frank País, shared results in soil protection from the correct use of minimum tillage in land preparation, the introduction of poly-culture, the use of organic fertilizer, the preservation of the vegetation layer and the Biological media option in the fight against pests.
For his part, the coordinator of Agro-ecology in the Provincial Directorate of the National Association of Small Farmers, José Luis Machado, meant during the appointment that the most important "technology" of the agrarian movement is the constant transmission of knowledge in order to promote good practices and achieve sustainability in the agri-food sphere.
