CAMAGÜEY._ The city will experience a theater festival dedicated entirely to children with the Fiñe Fair, scheduled from February 11th to 16th, to celebrate the 63rd anniversary of the Camagüey's Guiñol, one of the few groups of its kind that survives in Cuba.
The event will feature performances by national and local companies, with the goal of offering a unique cultural experience in the region, according to the organizers at a press conference.
It will cover several street stages, schools, and communities; as well as the Principal, Avellaneda, and Tasende theaters, which are part of the cultural corridor that benefited from permanent electric service.
Among the guests, the following stand out: Teatro Andante de Granma, the actress and oral narrator Verónica Hinojosa from Las Tunas, Teatro Primero from Ciego de Ávila, the Guiñol de Remedios from Villa Clara, the Guiñol from Cienfuegos, the Circo Areíto, the Tus Payasos project, the Teatro Cubano de la Magia and the children's company La Andariega.
Jesús Vidal Ruedas Infante, director of the Guiñol de Camagüey, explained to Adelante that, due to the lack of availability of electric service, they will not open the group's room for this occasion. However, the programming will be developed with enthusiasm and commitment in the alternative spaces, to bring the charm of theater and joy to the children and families of Camagüey.
It was also announced that a recognition was established in memory of Mario Guerrero, one of the most beloved directors of the Guiñol, who passed away six years ago, on February 15, the same day as the group's anniversary. This recognition will be given to highlight the work of the group, as well as to reward outstanding groups and institutions during the fair.
Osvaldo Betancourt, president of the Provincial Council of Performing Arts, said that the Fiñe Fair will only be the beginning of a year of projections for the institution, which aims to continue promoting systematic options for the enjoyment of children.
Among the events that are already underway, according to Kenny Ortigas, provincial director of Culture, are performances by the National Ballet of Cuba in March, the fifth edition of the Memoria Fragmentada meeting, the hosting of the dance event Solamente solos, and the first National Colloquium Orgullo de Ser Cubano scheduled for April, in addition to the usual Fernando Alonso in memoriam, for choreography and interpretation, and the Olorum for dance.
With its rich cultural program, the Fiñe Fair promises to be a celebration of art for children, a space where the little ones will enjoy and learn through the hands of artists who, with love and dedication, offer them a piece of the magical world of theatre.
