CAMAGÜEY.- The bees gather on stage, moving in unison like a hive in full activity. With costumes that reflect the sun's brightness, their movements celebrate love and creativity. In the air, laughter and singing resonate, while the sun's rays seem to embrace each little performer, illuminating the stage and the hearts of those who observe them. In this way, they not only entertain, they also inspire belief in teamwork.
The Rayitos de Amor Beehive of Santa Cruz del Sur is a project created on March 25, 2022, at the Ignacio Agramonte school and has transformed the cultural landscape of the municipality. The project was created following a proposal by the renowned teacher and director of the children's theatre company La Colmenita, Carlos Alberto Cremata, who suggested that each school should have a Colmenita, a space where children can explore their creativity and develop their artistic skills.
The group is led by two art instructors: Orisel Martínez and Yennys Almenares Suárez, who are in charge of putting on the plays. Both have dedicated their time and effort to cultivating the children's talent with the necessary tools to express themselves through art. They also have Edaime Romero Guerra, scriptwriter and founder of the project, who plays a fundamental role in creating the plays they present.
Yennis Almenares explains that in the beginning, she had a diverse team of teachers who covered all art forms. However, over time, due to the lack of instructors, the focus has been centered on three main disciplines: music, theatre, and plastic arts. In addition, some other school workers help with the project and contribute their experience and enthusiasm to support the young artists.
“The selection of the group members is a process that requires a lot of attention. We teach classes in all the classrooms of the school, this allows us to closely observe the potential of each child and their interest in art. This personalized attention is key to identifying those who not only have talent but also the desire to be part of the group,” Yennis clarified.
The project seeks to strengthen friendship and solidarity among the children, to create a space where they can find ways to have fun and learn, even in such difficult times. There they acquire valuable knowledge on various topics, especially about the life and work of José Martí.
The queen bee of La Colmenita, Ana Paula Pedrosa Pérez, a girl full of wisdom and charisma, said: “When we are on stage, we feel that everything is possible. Every time we perform, we bring a little piece of our heart and joy to the people. We want everyone to feel the same as we do when performing.”
Their work is worthy of admiration. Every rehearsal, every performance, is a testament to the commitment they have to their art. They fully engage in all projects and work together to create performances that entertain and inspire those who see them. The joy they transmit is contagious, and their ability to connect with the public is truly amazing.
The children of La Colmenita participate in a variety of activities, both at the municipal and provincial levels. These performances allow them to interact with other young artists and learn from them. One of the most significant experiences they have had was the event in Nuevitas, in July of this year, where they were part of a meeting with the second Colmenita in Havana.
“This event not only allowed them to share their art, but it was also a platform to establish ties with other groups, exchange ideas, and learn from their peers. It was truly a wonderful meeting, which strengthened the sense of community and provided them with valuable lessons about collaboration and teamwork,” says the instructor.
THE FAMILY AT EVERY STEP
A crucial aspect of the project's success is the unconditional love and support that the students receive from their families.
“Without the dedication and commitment of the families, carrying out this initiative would be practically impossible. Parents are not only responsible for finding and managing the costumes needed for each activity, but they also play a fundamental role in the logistics and general organization of the group,” says Yennis.
This support goes beyond the material; it is an emotional support that motivates the children to strive and give their best in each performance. The parents' presence at the rehearsals and activities creates an atmosphere of trust, in the moments shared during the preparations and activities.
