CAMAGÜEY.- Just on the day of the 509th anniversary of the foundation of Villa de Santa María del Puerto del Príncipe, current Camagüey, the 33rd City Hall was inaugurated in the Alejo Carpentier gallery.
The admission jury in this edition, made up of Ángel Olazábal Fariñas, Ernesto Escobar Escobar and Lianny Montalvan Salazar, highlighted the quality that the event managed to maintain despite the absence of regular figures, and the integration of artists from different generations into the call.
In this year's exhibition, social themes predominate, a recurring characteristic in Cuban art, and a growth of the sensual and intimate is appreciated in the works of female authors. The philosophical and the visual delight in abstraction also appear, the pure form and the lines in both the two-dimensional and the three-dimensional.
Escobar Escobar pointed out in the words to the catalog that "The event is very diverse, as are the artistic trends in our cultural space. More and more artists dare to venture into performance, video art and installation, without, therefore, , painting ceased to predominate as the favorite manifestation of the people of Camagüey, in addition to a greater presence of photography".
He also added that in all the works the much-needed and urgent creative effort is evident, even if it doesn't sell, or perhaps, precisely because it doesn't sell.
The event, dedicated to the Centenary of Isabel de las Mercedes, had in its opening with the presentation of the work Look at me, interpreted by the Contemporary Ballet of Camagüey. The program includes a series of exhibitions in various spaces in the city until the 5th, as well as a theoretical event that includes conferences, conversations and panels.
