CAMAGÜEY.- The Nicolás Guillén Foundation in Camagüey celebrates this August 7 the first year of the reconstitution of its subsidiary here, in the homeland of the first Cuban National Prize for Literature.
Chaired here by Yoandra Santana Perdomo, the organizational nucleus includes a vice president, an executive secretary and projects the work along the lines of artistic creation, communication, sociocultural work, academic practice and activism against discrimination.
“The Foundation is bringing together a broad group of researchers, writers and promoters who have done a lot to spread Guillén's work. We already have offices in Nuevitas, Minas, Guáimaro, Sibanicú, Vertientes and we plan to expand to other municipalities such as Jimaguayú ”, she affirmed.
As part of the 18th Literary Crusade, the founder of that event Santana Perdomo will guide the tour "Along the Guillén path", conceived with a minimum of artists through the Gran Hotel, the Plaza de los Trabajadores, the Callejón del Templador and the Nicolás Guillén Birthplace.
Precisely, she assured that the subsidiary will reside in the property where Guillén's Birthplace is located, and will expand the museum's collections and the personal library with objects donated by the family of the popular Camagüey's man.
"The initial constitution here of the Foundation occurred on November 29, 2004, with Manuel Villabella as president, Roberto Méndez as vice president, and Benito Estrada in the role of executive secretary," she recalled.
Santana Perdomo emphasized the sculpture project modeled by Martha Jiménez, and the intention of expanding her influence through ties with descendants of Caribbean nations, and workshops for children and youth.
