CAMAGÜEY.- Among the viable options for the little ones at home, during this summer, there are those related to learning through the different manifestations of art. One of the proposals is the Easy Ceramics for Children course, organized by the Cuban Association of Artisan Artists (Acaa), Camagüey’s subsidiary.
“The initiative is taught from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. until about 12:00 m. Every morning the virtuous creator Ana Elia Gutiérrez Fernández begins classes in her workshop, located in Cristo No.187, between Bembeta and Santa Catalina. The course began on the 15th of this month and remained until the 23rd,” the institution's vice president, Maribel Vidal Cervantes, told Adelante Digital.
One of the fundamental purposes of the summer offer is to bring infants closer to the world of crafts and relate them to useful activities. In that sense, ceramist Gutiérrez Fernández said: “We want them to think less about being distracted by phones, sitting all day in front of the TV or wasting their time. With the mud in their hands they can make an ashtray to give it to their parents, a gift for their mother, the figures they want, and most importantly, get new knowledge. ”
The 14-year-old, Jean Lester Barreiras Carriago, one of the participants in the initiative, told this digital site that he has attended the three courses taught by “the Association” because he wants to “develop his skills with the material and perhaps in a future I become a potter like my teacher. ”
According to the president of the Acaa, the children work with elementary techniques such as strips, tablets and, in more advanced classes, they will shape the clay, on a lathe, and form objects in which they “put their imagination and develop creativity ”.
The highest quality works will be located in a space of the institution that brings together artisans and artists, as a reward for the effort and satisfaction of having modeled their summer well.
