GRANMA, CUBA.- (ACN) Lazaro Blanco, best pitcher of the previous Cuban National Baseball Series (SNB by its Spanish acronym) and champion of that tournament with the Granma Alazanes, said he is training with great interest to have a great performance in the Canadian-American League (Can-Am).

The athlete, who participated in the previous Caribbean Series and the World Baseball Classic, told that he has been training in Bayamo City for more than three weeks and feels very motivated to arrive in Canada in perfect conditions.

He said that joining his new team, the Quebec Capitales, will be a very favorable experience for him, who has never played a full season in another country.

Debutant in SNB in 2004, Blanco was elected last season´s MVP, in which he was the leader in wins, ERA and shutouts.

The other athletes who will play in the Can-Am league are the aforementioned infielder Gracial, SS Yordan Manduley and OF Julio Pablo Martínez, all with the Quebec capitales, and pitcher Miguel Lahera and SS Alexander Ayala -of Camaguey-, both with the Trois-Rivieres Aigles.

It is expected OF Roel Santos, with good performance in the previous season in the Can-Am, the Caribbean Series and the World Classic, to join that group of Cubans hired abroad as he has aroused the interest of the Japanese club Chiba Lotte Marines.

That team belongs to the Japanese Professional Baseball League (NPB), circuit which already counts with the services of the also Cuban OF Alfredo Despaigne (Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks), while P Raidel Martinez and OF Leonardo Urgelles (Chunichi Dragons) and lefty pitcher Livan Moinello (Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks) are also playing in the second division of this league.
