HAVANA, CUBA.- (ACN) Cuba's men's national team won the Pan-American judo championship tournament in Panama on Tuesday, defeating Canada in the final.

The Cubans climbed to the top of the podium, escorted by Canadians and Mexicans, according to press reports.

With that result, the disciples of Julio Alderete ended up at the top, for this Friday and Saturday also won the individual continental contest, with four gold medals, one silver and three bronze (4-1-3), ahead of Brazilians (3-1-3).

The performance of Alderete's pupils was important in the location of the general table of the individual continental event, won by the male and female teams of Brazil (6-2-4), and followed by those of Cuba (4-2-5).

 In the women's, the gold medal was for the Brazilian, followed by the Canadians and the Mexicans.

Cuba obtained the individual titles with Osniel Solís, in the 66 kilograms, Iván Silva (81 kilos), José Armenteros (100) and Alex García (more than 100).

The silver medals were for Andy Granda (100) and Kaliema Antomarchi (78), while the bronze ones were for Yandry Torres (60), Magdiel Estrada (73), Aliuska Ojeda (57), Jorge Martinez (81) and Olga Masferrer (70).

Before traveling to Panama, Alderete, head of the technical staff of the men's team, announced that his purpose was to get medals with all his disciples and he succeeded.
