HAVANA.- (ACN) With two consecutive wins in the final, the Santa Tecla, which includes Cubans Lisván Valdés and Orestes Torres, won the title of the El Salvador Major Basketball League.

The Santa Tecla beat 94-86 and 68-61 the Sonzacate Halcones, in a three-game series, thus earning its first crown in that tournament.

According to the official site of the contest, Valdés and Torres were key pieces in the triumph of their squad as they both contributed with 68 points and 24 rebounds in the two games.

Before the beginning of the final, the point-guard Valdés accumulated in the postseason 91 points, 39 rebounds and 14 assists; while the power-forward Torres had scored 62 units with 26 rebounds.

Known as the green fury, Santa Tecla concluded the season unbeaten, achieving 30 wins in the qualifying round, plus another six victories in the play off.

In that crucial stage they defeated the Denver FAS (81-76 and 104-98) in quarterfinals; and in the semifinals they won in two games again this time over the Isidro Metapan Sports Association, with scores of 83-59 and 74-71.

In that semifinal phase, both Cuban players scored 62 points and grabbed 30 rebounds, a considerable contribution in two important lines of the game.

Now the next challenge for these Cuban players and their team will be to attend the Central American Clubs League, to be played in the next few days in El Salvador, event which grants one ticket to the FIBA Americas League.
