HAVANA.-(ACN) Cuban pole vaulter Yarisley Silva, London 2012 Olympic silver medalist,won the gold medal with record for the event in the International Athletic Meeting in Padua, Italy, when reaching 4.71 meters high.

Silva left behind the record of 4.62 m set in September 2002 by American Stacey Dragila, Olympic champion in Sydney 2000.

According to JIT sports publication, the Caribbean athlete was escorted by Italian Sonia Malavisi (4.51 m) and Slovenian Tina Sutej (4.38).

With this result, Silva confirms her  status as favorite for the podium of this event in the Olympic Games next August in Rio de Janeiro.

Prior to the Olympics, Silva plans to compete in the tenth stop of the Diamond League, scheduled for next Thursday and Friday in the British capital.
