HAVANA.- Cuban long jumper Juan Miguel Echevarria won the gold medal in the sixth stop of the 2018 IAAF Diamond League, based in Stockholm, Sweden, where he scored 8.83 meters.

Echevarria, natural of Camagüey province, who is only 19 and won the gold medal at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham, UK, last March, achieved with that mark the longest leap in the world in 23 years, although it is unfortunately ineligible for record purposes due to a marginally illegal tailwind of 2.1m/s, barely 0.1 m/s above what is permissible by IAAF.

Rio 2016 Olympic champion, American Jeff Henderson (8.39) and South African Luvo Manyonga, London 2017 world monarch, (8.25) were the silver and bronze medalists, respectively.
